Action for Glossies in the Mooloolah Valley

Encouraging locals to help save the threatened Glossy-black Cockatoo

Thanks to a BirdLife Australia 2024 Community Grant, MRL is excited to undertake this project, aimed at raising awareness of the plight of glossy black cockatoos (Glossies) in our local community.

Over 12 months (ending June 2025), the project will deliver workshops, hold bird awareness walks, and undertake rural property site visits, with the view of developing habitat enhancement plans for several local landholders.  We are always interested in hearing from landholders in the Mooloolah Catchment who are keen to undertake works on their property.

Designed to offer practical ways that landholders can assist in increasing habitat for the species,
MRL encourages members and the local community to improve their birding skills through guided bird walks.  If you are interested in attending an upcoming walk, or finding out more about this project, please contact us.

This project will complement our existing community outreach and extension activities currently underway through Sunshine Coast Council Environmental Levy Partnerships and Seqwater Catchment Repair projects.

MRL’s nursery at Glenview stocks food and habitat trees for Glossy-blacks.

This project received financial support from BirdLife Australia.
